Mr. Murphy began his first endeavor, Electric Company, in 1981 as a one-man operation with Pat as the sole electrician. It grew to a thriving business of 45 employees and 20 service trucks when it was sold in 2004. Since then, he has participated actively in many projects which converted warehouse space into condos and work space. Some of these are Pickle Factory Lofts (1991), The Motor Works Lofts (1993), The Townhomes at Fernwood Park (1998), Warehouse Lofts at Candler Park (1999), and LaFrance Street Lofts near Edgewood-Candler Park MARTA Station (2001).

Two of Mr. Murphy's development projects have been recognized for their excellence. The Town Homes of Fernwood Park, which included 8 Live-Work 3-story homes, received the Atlanta Regional Commission 2001 Development of Excellence award for exceptional merit in Live-Work design and Transit Oriented Development. The LaFrance Street Lofts was the recipient of the American Institute of Architects' 2005 Atlanta Residential Award of Excellence.
